Educational conflicts and agreements about the implementation of the Bologna Process in Greece

Abstract

This study shows that in implementing the procedures for change there is a strong conflict between the educational culture of Greek universities and the new European culture which was proposed by the new policy about the operation of private colleges in Greece. The study of the resistance in Greek higher education will provide an example to assist the interpretation and understanding of educational systems in other countries. I use the discourse historical approach (DHA) for the examination of political struggles in Greek higher education. Political struggles are examined in relation to the political and historical context of Greek universities. The examination of arguments and ideologies expressed by the representatives of political parties show that the educational culture and public character of Greek higher education are factors which influence the acceptance of reforms.
